Chapter 8: The program team is not human

After Lu Yiwei left, Mu Zhengqing hesitated for a moment, then brought the dolls out of the bedroom.

Even if they really need to install cameras at home, they should be installed in Lu Yiwei’s house.

Since he is so eager to participate in this variety show, let the netizens take a good look at his house.

After putting the doll back in its original place, Mu Zhengqing lay on the sofa and looked at the phone not far away.

He wondered what the netizens’ attitude would be after knowing about his relationship with Lu Yiwei.

The internet should be in an uproar by now. Otherwise, Gu Da wouldn’t have no news at all.

He also wondered whose fans were more powerful, his or Lu Yiwei’s.

His fans should be more powerful. After all, they had already been through a lot of storms.

Of course, Lu Yiwei’s fans are not to be underestimated either. They usually seem very peaceful, but if you provoke them, they will make you regret coming into this world.

Mu Zhengqing didn’t know that the actual situation online was completely different from what he imagined. There was no uproar, no fierce battles between fans.

At first, everyone was full of questions.

Mu Zhengqing and Lu Yiwei are going to participate in a divorce variety show?

They got married? They got divorced? Who did they marry? Who did they divorce?

That’s right, even though the show’s production team announced the two together, netizens didn’t put the two together.

After the initial confusion, the paparazzi started to get active.

In the end, they concluded that today is April Fool’s Day, and the production team was shamelessly trying to gain traffic. [T/N: lmfaooo]

The reason Gu Da didn’t contact him was because he didn’t expect this result.

He thought he was about to face the biggest challenge of his career, so he prepared more than thirty response plans and made over five hundred pages of PPT (PPT, PPT).

Who knew it would end up like this.

That’s it.

In the end, Mu Zhengqingstill went to Lu Yiwei’s house for dinner.

It wasn’t that he didn’t keep his word, but Lu Yiwei was too enthusiastic. If he didn’t go, Lu Yiwei would just stand at his door and not leave.

During the meal, Mu Zhengqing couldn’t help but look at Lu Yiwei.

Once, he got caught.

Twice, he still got caught.

Three times, he got caught again.

Every time he got caught, Mu Zhengqing said discontentedly, “Why are you looking at me?”

Before Lu Yiwei could speak, Mu Zhengqing continued, “If you dare to say you weren’t looking at me, how did you know I was looking at you? If you say such nonsense, I’ll… I’ll tell everyone online that you cheated, which led to our divorce.”

He was angry and not easy to deal with.

“Because you look good, so I couldn’t help but look at you a few more times.”

Lu Yiwei didn’t say any nonsense but instead started praising.

Maybe it was because he had eaten too many cola chicken wings, but his words were as sweet as honey. [T/N: oh yes! The romantic power of chicken wings]

Mu Zhengqing felt that he might as well have said nonsense. It made him a bit embarrassed.

There were many people who praised his looks, enough to line up from here to France, but no one looked at him as attentively as Lu Yiwei did while saying it.

“You’re not bad either, just a little short of being delicious.” Following the principle of reciprocity, Mu Zhengqing commented.

Anger: Hey, do you still remember me?

“Thank you for the compliment,” Lu Yiwei replied with a smile.

Actually, the reason he was looking at him was to see if he had read the online comments. If he knew that the netizens didn’t believe the show’s official announcement, would he still participate?

This batch of paparazzi was really something. He almost threw the marriage certificate in their faces, yet they were still so ineffective.

It seemed like he still didn’t know the online trend, but everything was uncertain before the show aired, so he couldn’t let his guard down.

His primary goal now was to get Mu Zhengqing to move in, then divert his attention so he didn’t look at his phone until the show started.

As for why he didn’t move to Mu Zhengqing’s place, he was self-aware enough.

Mu Zhengqing participating in the show was already enough for him. He didn’t dare to think about anything else for now.

“The show’s production team will come to install the cameras at three o’clock. Move your things over before then,” Lu Yiwei said after dinner.

“Okay, I’ll come over before three,” Mu Zhengqing said, glancing at the time.

It was now 12:30 PM, and there were still two and a half hours until 3:00 PM. He planned to go back and take a nap.

Sleep for two hours, then ten minutes to wake up, ten minutes to pack his things, and ten minutes to move to Lu Yiwei’s house. The timing would be just right.

“I’ll show you your room first,” Lu Yiwei said quickly as he saw Mu Zhengqing about to leave.

It was the place he would be sleeping after all, so Mu Zhengqing was a bit curious.

Actually, if he had a choice, he would most like to stay in the gaming room, but that was obviously not possible.

Following behind Lu Yiwei, Mu Zhengqing felt more and more uneasy. Finally, when Lu Yiwei was about to open the bedroom door, he couldn’t help but ask, “I’m staying in this room?”

Under his astonished gaze, Lu Yiwei nodded.

Seeing Lu Yiwei nod, Mu Zhengqing was shocked and said incredulously, “Isn’t this a divorce variety show? Letting two divorced people stay in one room, does the production team have any decency?”

Seeing Mu Zhengqing’s shocked expression, Lu Yiwei suppressed a smile and explained, “If you want to stay in the same room with me, it’s not impossible to discuss.”

Hearing Lu Yiwei say this, Mu Zhengqing asked in confusion, “So I’m not staying here?”

His house and Lu Yiwei’s house were the same except for the decor, so he was sure this room was the master bedroom.

“No, my bedroom is the one on the left,” Lu Yiwei replied.

The reason Lu Yiwei chose that room was because its balcony could just see a corner of Mu Zhengqing’s bedroom.

Although he rarely had the chance to see Mu Zhengqing, as long as he didn’t move, there was always hope of seeing him next time.

Not staying in the master bedroom but choosing the secondary bedroom, Mu Zhengqing couldn’t understand Lu Yiwei’s thinking.

“I’d rather change rooms,” Mu Zhengqing said.

Since the host didn’t stay in the master bedroom, he, as a temporary guest, felt it was inappropriate to stay there.

“The other rooms are not suitable for living. If you really don’t want to stay here, you’ll have to squeeze in with me,” Lu Yiwei said.

“Then let’s switch,” Mu Zhengqing replied.

Since Lu Yiwei said so, Mu Zhengqing couldn’t say anything more. He decided to stay.

Actually, he had the same problem as Lu Yiwei, which was that it was hard to fall asleep in an unfamiliar environment.

However, he just had a problem with sleeping well. He didn’t have the problem of sleepwalking(1)

Mu Zhengqing walked around the bedroom and was extremely satisfied.

The bedroom was fully carpeted, and stepping on it felt ticklish, making his heart feel ticklish too.

The bedding set on the bed was made of coral fleece, which felt delicate and soft to the touch.

If Lu Yiwei weren’t still there, he would have jumped onto the bed immediately.

“Do you want to take a nap here to get used to it in advance?” Lu Yiwei suggested, glancing at Mu Zhengqing’s phone on the dining table.

“Alright,” Mu Zhengqing replied with some reservation.

As soon as Lu Yiwei left, he immediately jumped onto the bed and rolled around.

It was even more comfortable than he had imagined.

He was originally worried that he wouldn’t be able to sleep without a doll to hug, but it seemed his worry was unnecessary.

At the door, Lu Yiwei laughed when he heard the noise inside.

Mu Zhengqing was woken up by the noise outside. He groggily opened the bedroom door and saw the living room full of people.

Hearing the noise, everyone turned their gaze towards him.

Mu Zhengqing blinked and belatedly remembered that this was Lu Yiwei’s house.

Just as he was torn between closing the door and pretending to be dead or acting as if nothing had happened and going out, Lu Yiwei walked up to him, blocking the others’ view, and asked, “Did we wake you?”

“How long did I sleep?” Mu Zhengqing asked.

“Not long, just in time to watch them install the cameras,” Lu Yiwei replied.

Production team: Indeed, not long. We’ve only been waiting for half an hour.

Lu Yiwei: If I had known you were this noisy, I wouldn’t have let you come so early.

“I’ll go back and pack my things first, and come over later,” Mu Zhengqing said after thinking for a moment.

Hmm, between pretending nothing happened and playing dead, he chose to play dead.

“Aren’t you afraid that if you don’t watch them install the cameras, they’ll put them in places you can’t see and record things they shouldn’t?” Lu Yiwei suddenly leaned in and whispered.

Mu Zhengqing was startled by Lu Yiwei’s sudden approach. After recovering, he stammered, “Then… then I really need to watch.”

Although he didn’t think there would be any scenes that shouldn’t be filmed, knowing the camera layout would help him avoid them later.

For the sake of long-term laziness in the future, he couldn’t afford to be lazy now.

The production team seemed very unprofessional while installing the cameras. There were problems here and mistakes there.

Seeing the production team frequently glancing at him and Lu Yiwei, Mu Zhengqing reassured them, “Don’t be nervous, practice makes perfect. Take your time.”

Hearing this, the production team members just nodded without saying anything.

Production team members’ inner thoughts: “I’ve been professionally installing cameras for twenty years. We’re not nervous because of you two. We’re shocked, okay?”

Due to the “unprofessionalism” of the production team, what was supposed to be a three-hour job took six hours to complete.

After the people left, Mu Zhengqing went back to pack his things.

He originally thought that since the distance was so close, he could just come over and get whatever he needed at any time. This was why he had only allocated ten minutes to pack his things earlier.

But Lu Yiwei said it was best not to let the netizens know that they lived across from each other.

His address would be exposed sooner or later, and it might attract harassment from sasaeng fans (2)

Mu Zhengqing thought that made sense, so he moved everything he thought he needed to Lu Yiwei’s house.

Lying on Lu Yiwei’s bed, Mu Zhengqing became curious about the upcoming live variety show.

Footnotes:

  1. He didn’t have the problem of sleepwalking - sleepwalking is generally caused by severe insomnia and extreme stress, among other things. Mu Zhengqing suffered a slight insomnia in unfamiliar places, but not to the point of sleepwalking.

  2. 사생팬 (sasaeng): It’s a korean borrow-word and means a crazy, obsessive, stalker fan.
