Chapter 10: Did you steal the question?

Seeing Lu Yiwei  typing seriously, Mu Zhengqing was afraid of disturbing his work and got up to return to the bedroom.

“What’s wrong?” Lu Yiwei asked as soon as Mu Zhengqing was about to get up.

If he hadn’t just seen Lu Yiwei typing, he would have suspected that Lu Yiwei had been secretly watching him all along.

“I’m going back to the bedroom,” Mu Zhengqing said as he stood up.

“Oh, then hurry back and don’t exceed the time,” Lu Yiwei reminded.

“What do you mean by ‘don’t exceed the time’?” Mu Zhengqing asked in confusion.

He suddenly had a bad feeling.

“The program team has a rule that except from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM and from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM, you can’t stay in the bedroom for more than ten minutes. If you exceed the time, the program team will install cameras in your bedroom,” Lu Yiwei explained.

“Why didn’t I know about this rule?” Mu Zhengqing said in shock after hearing Lu Yiwei’s words.

Seeing Mu Zhengqing so shocked, Director Liang Qi said that he had only known about it a few minutes earlier.

“The program team just sent the notice,” Lu Yiwei  said calmly.

Mu Zhengqing took his phone and indeed saw the message from the program team.

Seeing the notice, Mu Zhengqing gritted his teeth and thought, if he had known about this rule earlier, even if he didn’t get a divorce, he wouldn’t…

Forget it, he would still ask for a divorce. After all, he could distinguish between temporary and lifelong constraints.

But he could brainwash Lu Yiwei and make him not participate in this program.

Oh right, it’s still possible now. At worst, he would pay the penalty fee.

Anyway, even if he didn’t pay the penalty fee, in the end, his money would still go to Lu Yiwei.

Thinking this way, it was a completely profitable deal.

Mu Zhengqing sat back on the sofa and started typing on his phone.

After he clicked send, Lu Yiwei quickly looked at him. He signalled Lu Yiwei to chat on WeChat.

He hadn’t forgotten that they were live streaming now. Not to mention the netizens, even Director Liang Qi wouldn’t agree if he knew he was trying to poach his talent.

Today, Liang Qi looked at them in such a way that it was impossible not to notice. Even a big bad wolf looking at Little Red Riding Hood wouldn’t be as exaggerated.

Mu Zhengqing (tentatively probing): “Do you feel particularly awkward?”

Lu Yiwei : “No.”

Mu Zhengqing (starting to guide): “Every move we make is seen clearly by the netizens. Doesn’t that make you uncomfortable?”

Lu Yiwei: “No, it doesn’t.”

Mu Zhengqing (trying a different angle): “My fans believe you like me. Don’t you have anything to explain?”

Lu Yiwei: “Nothing to explain.”

This isn’t working. Isn’t Lu Yiwei the one who hates being paired with others the most?

Mu Zhengqing thought no one noticed his interactions with Lu Yiwei, but in fact, the netizens in the live stream saw everything clearly.

However, the netizens were divided into two different camps regarding their interactions.

One camp, represented by Mu Zhengqing’s fans, said they were just chatting. Didn’t you see Lu Yiwei’s happy expression?

The other camp, represented by Lu Yiwei’s fans, said they were arguing. Didn’t you see Mu Zhengqing’s face turn dark with anger?

Passing netizens expressed their confusion, saying, “Shouldn’t you be focusing on your own idols? Why are you staring at the other side?”

Since talking didn’t work, Mu Zhengqing quickly came up with a new idea.

“I’ll watch some TV, I hope I’m not disturbing you,” Mu Zhengqing said while turning on the TV and asking Lu Yiwei .

Even if you say I’m disturbing you, I won’t turn it off. If you have the guts, go back to the bedroom. If you stay there for more than ten minutes, the program team will install cameras in your bedroom. Let’s see if you feel awkward then.

“You’re not disturbing me, let’s watch together,” Lu Yiwei said, putting down his computer.

Unexpectedly, Lu Yiwei had this reaction, so Mu Zhengqing had no choice but to watch TV reluctantly.

Cartoons, childish.

Commercials, boring.

Variety shows, awkward.

TV dramas, so fake.

Mu Zhengqing kept changing channels, and Lu Yiwei didn’t comment. Whatever Mu Zhengqing watched, Lu Yiwei watched too.

Suddenly, Mu Zhengqing knew what he wanted to watch.

Since you want to watch so much, don’t blame me.

After Mu Zhengqing found the TV drama starring Lu Yiwei , he didn’t change the channel.

He had already thought it through. If Lu Yiwei asked him to change the channel, he would say the remote was broken and they could only watch this.

Who knew that Lu Yiwei just glanced at him and didn’t say anything.

Mu Zhengqing originally thought that Lu Yiwei would feel awkward watching his own TV drama, but who knew that not only was he not awkward, he even explained the previous plot to him so he wouldn’t be confused while watching.

Mu Zhengqing slowly got immersed in the plot.

After one episode ended, he remembered his original purpose.

“Aren’t you embarrassed?” Mu Zhengqing asked curiously.

He had seen interviews on this topic, and almost everyone felt so embarrassed they wanted to dig a hole when watching their own TV dramas or movies.

“Embarrassed,” Lu Yiwei replied.

“Then why didn’t you ask me to change the channel?” Mu Zhengqing asked in confusion.

‘Although, even if you asked, I wouldn’t change it,’ he silently added in his heart.

“I saw you were really into it,” Lu Yiwei said, looking at him.

“It’s okay, I’m just curious about who the murderer is,” Mu Zhengqing said, pretending not to care.

In fact, he was quite engrossed, and now his mind was full of thoughts about who the murderer could be.

He planned to search online to find out who the murderer was, otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to sleep tonight.

Just as he picked up his phone, Lu Yiwei  waved at him.

“What’s up?” Mu Zhengqing asked in confusion.

“Don’t you want to know who the murderer is?” Lu Yiwei explained.

Seeing that Lu Yiwei was about to tell him who the murderer was, Mu Zhengqing immediately moved closer to him.

Seeing Mu Zhengqing’s action, Lu Yiwei was stunned for a moment, then leaned in and whispered a name in his ear.

“The murderer is actually him,” Mu Zhengqing said in shock after hearing the answer.

Of course, Lu Yiwei’s fans were even more shocked than Mu Zhengqing.

Who was it that said in interviews that he wouldn’t give spoilers, no matter how close the relationship was?

How come Mu Zhengqing just casually asked, and you told him?

After knowing who the murderer was, Mu Zhengqing became even more curious. How could that person be the murderer? What exactly happened in between?

Seeing Mu Zhengqing looking at him expectantly, Lu Yiwei  asked, “Do you want to know the process?”

Mu Zhengqing immediately said excitedly, “Can you tell me?”

#Of course not# Lu Yiwei’s fans answered for him, “Telling you the answer was already the limit, and you still want to know the process? Dream on.”

“Of course I can,” Lu Yiwei said without hesitation.

For the next while, Lu Yiwei began explaining to Mu Zhengqing why that person was the murderer.

Because he was afraid the netizens in the live stream would hear, the two of them were very close. Lu Yiwei could clearly see Mu Zhengqing’s eyelashes.

He could only try to keep his voice normal. Fortunately, Mu Zhengqing was so immersed in the plot that he didn’t notice anything unusual.

After explaining the murderer’s process, the program team sent a message reminding them not to forget today’s task.

Forgetting was impossible. Mu Zhengqing just didn’t know how to review it. [T/N: as a reminder, the first task is to review and reenact their first meeting]

While he was struggling with how to complete the task, Lu Yiwei said that if he trusted him, he could leave the task to him.

Of course, he had no problem with that. How could he refuse such an easy task?

“Are you sure this is our first meeting?” Seeing what Lu Yiwei  sent him, Mu Zhengqing sent a message asking.

“Just a little artistic liberty,” Lu Yiwei replied.

Is this “a little”? This is practically a complete makeover!

It seems the saying “art imitates life” doesn’t apply to Lu Yiwei. Even without life experiences, he can create art out of thin air.

“Is this really okay?” Mu Zhengqing asked, still a bit uneasy.

Although the witness to their first meeting is now in prison, he still felt a bit guilty.

Lu Yiwei confidently assured him that it was fine, so Mu Zhengqing didn’t say anything more.

Alright then, as long as the task gets done.

After confirming the plot, it was time to set up the scene.

Mu Zhengqing thought it was good enough, but Lu Yiwei insisted that while the plot could be artistically modified, the scene couldn’t be sloppy.

Alright, it seems that even enjoying the fruits of someone else’s labour isn’t that easy.

Who knew that when they asked the program team for props, the program team started being difficult.

To obtain the props, they first need to complete a task. The task set by the show is neither too difficult nor too easy. It mainly tests how well they know each other.

Mu Zhengqing needs to name TV shows or movies that Lu Yiwei has acted in. Lu Yiwei needs to name songs that Mu Zhengqing has sung or dances he has performed. Each correct answer earns one point, and they need to accumulate more than 30 points to pass. On average, each person needs to answer 15 questions correctly to complete the task.

If they complete the task, the show will provide them with props. If they fail, they will be punished. The punishment is a cup of bitter melon juice for each of them.

Upon hearing about the bitter melon juice, Mu Zhengqing frowned deeply, as bitterness is the only taste he fears.

“Who will go first?” asked the show’s staff.

Just as Mu Zhengqing was about to speak, Lu Yiwei quickly said, “I’ll go first.”

Mu Zhengqing originally thought that if Lu Yiwei could name ten, it would be quite good, and fifteen would be an extraordinary performance.

Although he has sung many songs, only about ten of them are widely known. As for dancing, there are some he doesn’t even remember himself, let alone Lu Yiwei .

So, to complete this task, it requires the joint effort of both of them.

He started recalling the TV dramas and movies that Lu Yiwei has acted in.

But what he didn’t expect was that Lu Yiwei completed the task all by himself, without needing him to step in.

Regarding this result, not only Mu Zhengqing was surprised, but it can be said that it was beyond everyone’s expectations.

Even Mu Zhengqing’s fans wouldn’t dare to say they could name thirty songs he has sung or dances he has performed in one go.

Mu Zhengqing’s fan: “If this isn’t love, then tell me what is love.”

Lu Yiwei’s fan: “It shows that your idol is really popular, right?”

Mu Zhengqing’s fan: “If you put it that way, it’s not wrong.”

“Did you steal the question?”** Mu Zhengqing asked Lu Yiwei.

There are some songs he doesn’t even remember singing, and some dances he doesn’t remember performing, yet Lu Yiwei knows them.

Especially when the program team questioned his answers, he could accurately state when and where he sang the songs and performed the dances.

Mu Zhengqing voiced the thoughts of many netizens, and the viewers in the live broadcast were also waiting for Lu Yiwei’s answer.

“Can’t you name thirty TV dramas or movies I’ve acted in?” Lu Yiwei didn’t answer his question but asked back.

“I can’t,” Mu Zhengqing answered honestly.

He had just thought about it and could only name fifteen at most.

“Not being able to name them is normal because I haven’t acted in thirty TV dramas or movies.”

In the end, Lu Yiwei didn’t answer whether he had stolen the question or not.

Footnotes:

** This translates as “did you cheat” and “did you steal the question” depending on which AI I use. Personally, I think “did you cheat” might fit better but “did you steal the question” is the chapter title, so that’s what I went with.
